A woman passenger travelling on an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Bhopal was in for an unpleasant surprise after noticing that her seat was missing.
"Beautiful @IndiGo6E — I do hope I land safely! :)?
This is your flight from Bengaluru to Bhopal 6E 6465,", an X user, Yavanika Raj Shah said in a post.
She also posted a photo of the seat showing two of the three cushions missing.
After her post went viral, many commented that IndiGo may soon start charging extra money for the cushions on top of the amount flyers have to pay for their seat.
"Saw a similar seat while flying Indigo from Mumbai to Indore last week. They fixed the cushion only after the actual passenger turned up. May be they are facing cushion shortage and using as per demand," an X user said.
However, IndiGo soon clarified that the seat cushions were removed for cleaning.
"The seat cushions were replaced prior to the flight for cleaning purposes. Our cabin crew promptly informed the customers who were allotted these seats. This is a standard practice for cleaning during transit as and when required," IndiGo said.
"We are committed to providing the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene to our customers," it added.
This is not the first time IndiGo passengers have complained that their seats were missing.
In November 2023, Sagarika Patnaik a passenger flying on IndiGo flight number 6E-6798 from Pune to Nagpur had complained that her seat cushion was missing.
She informed the cabin crew about the situation, but as the boarding process continued, she found herself standing in the aisle, causing inconvenience to other passengers. Later a crew member resolved the issue by fetching a spare cushion from another seat.
Earlier this year, IndiGo had announced an increase in its seat-selection charges.
With the increase announced in January, prices of some of the seats went up by as much as Rs 2,000.
